In April 2009 Meta House Phnom Penh has opened a masters class for young Cambodian filmmakers, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. Within the M.E.T.A. Program (Media Education and Training Academy), so far approximately 120 students have had the opportunity to learn from and work with international directors, producers, cameramen and editors. The educational program is free. In addition to theoretical and practical classes (from conceptualization to post production), and weekend seminars, the students also produce their own short documentaries.
Meta House-founder Nico Mesterharm (photo top, 2nd from left), is a German TV journalist. In Cambodia, Mr. Mesterharm has lectured at the Department of Media And Communication (DMC) / Royal University of Phnom Penh and at Pannasastra University. He works together with German filmmaker Marc Eberle (photo top middle), who holds an MA degree in film and TV from Royal Holloway University of London. Previously, Mr. Eberle helped to set up Cambodia’s first private TV station CTN as producer, director, production manager and coach for the local staff. He continues to teach documentary filmmaking at the Meta House, as well as pursuing his love of making films. Here, you can watch films by Marc Eberle, Nico Mesterharm, Cambodian filmmakers and students, which have been either exclusively produced for THE TURTLE CLUB project or deal with related topics.
